Day 38 Tues Sept 17th

Monday day 37cont.

yestereday, (Mon), Cuba Landing was closed so we called ahead to Crooked Creek marina, about 6 miles farther  upriver. they were open so proceeded their. it was up a small crooked creek. got gas and ice and went to Mermaid Marina south of Perrysville. got gas and then tried to fish next to marina for a while. Stan caught one small bluegill, but in the process of trying to get some water in the bucket to keep it, he dropped it and it flopped back into water. Milt caught a small turtle which was released.

Abuout 4:00 PM, we headed back upstream for several miles and pulled into the mouth of small creek for the night. anchored on a smal beadh and was really in someones back yard. the owner came down and we talked a while. He said we were welcome to spend the night. not sure he could actually object since we were still in the water, excpth for anchors which event those were above the high water line.

We had hamburgers and catfish for supper. the fish was really good.

Day 38 Tuesday sept 17th

Was a lot warmer last night, low was about 65 degrees. but wnen we woke up, we found the river had dropped about a foot and our front end was fairly hard agroung. We could not push it off and the moter would not pull it bachwards. We finally got it moving backwards by Milt pryong on one front corner with our 2×4 and Stan pulling on the anchor rope which was tied to the opposite back corner of boat and led to shore at 45 degree angle. did this at one side and then the other, which enabled us to walk the boat backwards, first 1 inch, then 2 inces, then 4,6, 12 etc We finally got it moved back 4-5 feet to where the motor would pull it off.

Then ate breakfast and headed upriver. stopping at Clifton Marina near town of clifton for more gas and supplies. and download this
