Day 23-26, Sept 3 – 6, Mon-Thur

Day 23, sept 3rd Mon

Found out this morning that our motor was still not running right so went over to the Mound city boat ramp and made some calls. found someone who can help us tomorrow so spent the day setting at this ramp. several people came by and offered advice and help but not much they could do. several offered to take us to store for groceries, etc. all we really need was ice so declined and then an couple showed up with 3 bags of ice.

Day 24 & 25 , Tue-Wed

We spent all day Tuesday on the telephone trying to find someone who could actually come and pull our boat out of the water and figure out what is wrong and fix it. finally reached someone late Tues afternoon who could do it. MaCabe Marina near Marion, Ill agreed to come. They came Wed morning with a pontoon boat trailer and we pulled it out and went to their shop about 38 miles north of Mound City. arrived there about 12:30PM. they shortly found out that we had water in one of the gas tanks. we think that it came from a marina way back upriver as we had not used that tank for some time. It will also require some carburator removal and cleaning to do a proper job which they are doing Wednesday afternoon. so at present we got a room at a nearby motel and are spending the afternoon and evening here. we hope that they got the problem fixed and will pick us up and take us back to river tomorrow morning. not much here to do, so catching up on reading, this blog and resting. There is a nearby bar that has midget wrestling tonite. Stan did some laundry at a nearby laundromat and met the wrestlers there and they are staying at the same motel.

Went over to nearby gas station/store/resturant and had fried chicken(stan) andpizza(Milt), stopped by the bar where wrestling is to be tonite, but at $20.00/person we declined.

Have not heard from repair shop, so no news maybe good news,  at least, we hope and assume they did not find more problems and we can get on the road/water tomorrow.

will probably not have any daily pages for these days.   hopefully will be back in travel tomorrow.

Day 26, sept 5th, thur

. We are back on the Ohio river now. Picked up the boat this morning and it was ready to go. Problem was water in the gasoline, quite a bit, which then clogged up the carburators.
They cleaned the carburators, cleaned the algae growth off the pontoons, replace the spark plugs, and some other minor items and took us and the boat back down to the river and laucned at Metropolis, which is about 35 miles upstream from Mound City. so we gained a days travel that way. We think we got the water in the gas at a marina where we filled up and also stayed overnight well above the St. Louis area.

We got launched in early afternoon, but spent the rest of the day putting the boat back in order, reattaching the canoe, packing things away, and other minor items. Milt went up to the nearby grocery store and got ice and groceries. May go back for some beer later. We are parked at a nice dock at the local boat ramp and near Fort Massic State Park. Will stay here overnight since it is to late to make it up to the cumberland river and the next good anchorage. Then take off early tomorrow.
